One of the most anticipated hardcore releases of the year, IGN.com recently named Shook Ones among the “10 Must Hear Hardcore Bands” in 2009. The band is currently featured in the new issue of Alternative Press magazine, which comments “[Shook Ones] play with a gruff, Chuck Ragan-channeling passion, write songs with guitar tones that Bob Mould might find beautiful and embrace all the tensions of the term “pop-punk” with a Dan Yemin-approved batch of visceral melodies.”
The Unquotable A.M.H. (an inside joke referencing a nerdy 80’s movie heart throb) was recorded with Jackson Justice Long at Two Sticks Audio in Seattle (owned by Death Cab For Cutie drummer Jason McGerr). After a mishap during the mixing stage, Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis, Botch, Minus The Bear) mixed the album on short notice in only 4 days.
“I feel like the album as a whole, at least in the lyrical sense, is about growth,” explains Shook Ones vocalist Scott Freeman. “Just as Anthony Michael Hall grew from teen nerd into psychic intermediary for the dead to speak to the living (see Dead Zone). OK, maybe not that part, but honestly about the growth part” he says.
The band recently wrapped a tour across Europe, and look to hit the road hard this summer. In the past, Shook Ones have shared the stage with Lifetime, Paint It Black, Ruiner and Sinking Ships, to name a few, and have toured Europe and Japan.
Recently Paper + Plastick Records also just released a brand new Shook ones track (not on the new album), which is on sale for $1 at PaperAndPlastick.com. All proceeds from “Breakfast For Dinner” will be donated to organizations fighting for same-sex couples in California, such as Equality California, the ACLU and Lambda Legal. Vocalist Scott Freeman recently released a statement expressing his thoughts on California’s Proposition 8 decision, which you can read here: http://reybee.com/shookones/prop8/
Shook Ones is Freeman, Jimmy Walsh (drums), Bo Stewart (bass), Zach “Funds” Muljat (guitar), Kelly Aiken (guitar).
