Flawless, week after week. Adam Lambert’s performances on American Idol are simply flawless. No American Idol contestant has ever performed with such originality, versatility, and talent. I truly believe he could sing “Old MacDonald” end it with his signature high pitched falsetto and bring the audience to their feet.
Adam was born on January 29, 1982. He has been a stage actor since he was about 10 years old. He played the part of Joshua in “The Ten Commandments” at the Kodak Theatre alongside Val Kilmer. He was the understudy for the part of Fiyero in the Los Angeles cast of the musical “Wicked.”
Adam auditioned for American Idol in San Francisco. During his initial audition he sang Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Both Kara and Simon commented negatively that is was theatrical but he was voted to move on to the Hollywood rounds. In Hollywood, he sang Cher’s “Believe”, a risky song choice which paid off for him in the end as he made the Top 36. For his semi-final performance, he sang The Rolling Stones “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” All the judges praised him; however Simon remarked that parts of it were “excruciatingly bad” while other parts were “brilliant.” For the Top 13, he sang Michael Jackson’s “Black or White.” Paula Adbul predicted that he would go on to be the winner or runner-up of the competition. The next week, Adam sang Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” Randy, Paula, and Kara all like it but Simon called it “indulgent rubbish.” For the Top 10, he sang a slowed down, acoustic version of The Miracles’ “The Tracks of My Tears.” All the judges praised it with Simon proclaiming that he had really emerged as a star that night. For the Top 9, he sang Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music.” His performance brought positive comments all around from the judges.
American Idol Season 8 belongs to Adam Lambert.
Some think Adam should be the front man in a rock band, some think he should stay in the theatre, some think he would make a great solo artist, what do you think?
