Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson were married on May 17, 2008 at the Encino, California estate of the bride’s parents Joe and Tina Simpson.
Simpson, 23, wore a beautiful ivory lace Monique Lhuillier wedding gown with a cathedral length veil and a diamond necklace with matching earrings. The rings were designed by William Noble. Wentz, 28, wore a black Dior Homme tuxedo with white bowtie. Wentz’s English bulldog, Hemingway served as ringbearer.
The Alice in Wonderland themed ceremony was attended by 150 close friends and family members. The guests gathered underneath white tents, which were decorated with black rugs, white couches with red pillows, black chandeliers and lots of red roses, black calla lilies, and black orchids. At the couple’s request, all the guests wore dark colors.
The non-denominational ceremony was officiated by her father Joe Simpson and her sister Jessica Simpson served as the maid of honor wearing a black Vera Wang gown. The ring-bearer was Wentz’s English bulldog, Hemingway. After escorting his youngest daughter down the aisle, it was reported that Joe Simpson told the guests funny and touching stories about Ashlee before beginning the wedding, frequently choking up during the ceremony.
Other special guest to attend the ceremony were Jessica’s boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, CaCee Cobb and boyfriend Scrubs actor Donald Faison.
The reception featured a masterpiece wonderland-inspired cake with a top hat, teapot, stopwatch and a pot of flowers on top and was made by Sam Godfrey. Black magic roses were provided by Mark’s Garden for the centerpieces. The guest were served Rose Veuve Clicquot champagne with a sit down dinner and of course lots of dancing to a deejay. After taking pictures, Ashlee emerged in a “sexy black party dress” to dance. Though guests were required to check their cell phones and cameras at the door, they did leave with a memento: a red box containing a cookie that, continuing the “Alice in Wonderland” theme, read, “Eat me.”
Simpson and Wentz began dating in Autumn of 2006 and announced their engagement April 9. Pregnancy rumours soon followed.
Instead of gifts, guests were asked to make donations to the Invisible Children Charity or Casa Hogar Elim orphanage in Mexico.
By request of the bride and groom, no cameras or videos were allowed at the wedding. It turns out that the newlyweds had bigger plans for the images. They sold the exclusive photo rights to People magazine for $1.3 million.
This is the first marriage for both.
