One way to keep the paparazzi away from your celebrity wedding: hold the ceremony deep in the Brazilian rain forest. That’s what White Stripes frontman Jack White did, as he tied the knot with Karen Elson, a model featured prominently in the band’s new ”Blue Orchid” video.

According to a statement posted on the rock duo’s website, ”Karen Elson and Jack White were married on the confluence of three rivers — the Rio Negro, the Solimones and the Amazon… by a traditional shaman priest on a canoe at the exact point where the three rivers met. The ceremony was immediately followed by a blessing by a priest at a Catholic cathedral called Igreja Matric in the historic city of Manaos.” The statement also said that the wedding party, a small group of close friends, included Stripes manager Ian Montone as best man and Stripes drummer Meg White as maid of honor. No word on whether the bride wore white and red.

Despite the fact that Jack and Meg’s claim that they’re brother and sister, they were actually briefly married nearly a decade ago. Jack’s real name is John Anthony Gillis.

The wedding came less than a month after the guitarist’s ex-girlfriend, Renée Zellweger, secretly married country star Kenny Chesney at his home in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with their union making headlines just as she was hitting the promotional circuit to talk up her movie Cinderella Man. It’s just a coincidence, of course, that the Stripes new album Get Behind Me Satan hits stores the same week. There’s nothing like a surprise tropical wedding to help you forget a past romance.

Jack and Karen have added two children. Henry Lee White and Scarlett Teresa White.
